Types of car chassis

We are Introducing Automobile Chassis so First Question in Mind is that What is Chassis, How to Explain that
so lets try to explain in shorter words and easy as possible as.

                              There is also confusion b/w chassis and frame let also try to figure out which is what? where we use chassis word and where we use frame word

What is Frame ?

Frame is just like a skeleton without any mountings, as shown in fig. (1.1)

fig {1.1}

What is Chassis ?

Chassis is Mounted Frame. It Consist of the Frame plus the transmission,  Motor, Engine Differential and Suspensions.  Shown in fig (1.2)

fig {1.2}

{This is major difference b/w the car chassis and frame hope you got that point}

Let's quickly revise types of chassis available for automobile

Divide into Four Categories :

Conventional chassis : - this type is made as separate unit then joined by various method's

Non conventional frames :- frame less chassis. in this absence of frame or body itself act as frame

Semi-forward control :- In which engine is mounted on the half of it is the driver's cabin like some pickup and trucks has made on this concept

Full-forward control : - In which engine is mounted completely inside the driver's cabin, In this frame max space is utilized.

1. Ladder

Ladder chassis as it name indicate the chassis is same as its name, it is a better type of chassis in term of durability, maintenance and reliability    [ note  : - chassis frames are loaded by static forces from the body and load, as design view load is taken as uniform distributed load ] this is made like ladder as one part then other as shown in fig. below

Types of ladder frame

1. C cross section
2. I cross section
3. Rectangular Box [Hollow]
4. Rectangular Box [Intermediate]

2. Tubular Frame

This chassis is conventional type chassis, easy to built up and design, parts are welded , In this hollow pipes or other type of pipes are used to build that, This is not strong enough, Motor racing engineers developed  3 dimensional design
shown in fig.

4. Monocoque

This is single shell construction Monocoque construction called Unit body or Unibody
 firstly Monocoque designed in steel, so it is heaver then car maker find alternative materials like aluminum.
as compare to other this frame is 36% lighter than other that is named as [ ULSAB ]
Monocoque used for wood frames and metals frames. used in early airplanes.

benefits high fuel efficiency due to low weight

6. Rolling chassis

This is type of chassis which is without the body work  {coach or cabin}
assembled with its final power train and able to move under its own power
